- Monitor job margins and compare actual costs to expected costs, identifying variances in materials, labor, and manufacturing overhead
- Investigate the root causes of cost and margin variances and communicate findings to management
- Develop and maintain cost accounting systems and procedures to ensure accurate cost allocation and reporting
- Manage overhead absorption and recovery rates to ensure manufacturing costs are properly captured
- Monitor inventory levels and ensure accurate valuation of raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods
- Analyze inventory aging, calculate reserves, and support physical inventory counts
- Partner with operations and other departments to improve costing accuracy and identify efficiency opportunities
- Support month-end close, journal entries, cost reporting, forecasting, audits, and financial statement preparation
- 5+ years of accounting experience with a strong focus on manufacturing cost accounting
- Approximately 7–10 years of manufacturing experience preferred, though less experience may be considered for candidates with strong hands-on cost accounting expertise
- Experience with absorption accounting, overhead recovery rates, inventory accounting, and job costing
- Strong understanding of material, labor, and manufacturing overhead variances
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field
- CPA or CMA certification, eligibility, or progress toward certification is a strong plus
- Advanced Excel skills and experience working within an ERP system
- SAP or Syspro experience is preferred but not required
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain financial information to non-financial teams
