Position Summary:

Packaging Design Engineer I is responsible for developing custom packaging designs and specifications that meet customer and industry standards, while aligning with performance, sustainability, and cost-efficiency goals. Responsibilities include creating 3D models, 2D drawings, performance calculations, Bills of Materials (BOM), and other documentation. Effective communication with internal and external stakeholders and site visits for product measurements are essential.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and develop packaging solutions, including detailed CAD models and drawings, using Solid Works or NX, under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Interpret technical documentation and develop comprehensive 2D drawings.
  • Participate in onsite meetings with customers to understand their design requirements.
  • Create and update packaging specifications, considering materials, dimensions, and tolerances for manufacturing efficiency and cost optimization.
  • Assist in selecting appropriate packaging materials based on durability, environmental impact, and cost.
  • Collaborate with the engineering team to review CAD designs and ensure they meet all requirements before manufacturing.
  • Develop and modify Bills of Materials and technical documentation as needed.
  • Support creation of inspection documentation and other technical support documents.
  • Work with cross-functional teams and customers to develop packaging solutions aligned with industry standards.
  • Participate in design reviews and provide technical input.
  • Assist in creating prototypes and participate in testing and validation, including structural analysis.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of design specifications, analyses, tests, and changes.
  • Continuously develop engineering skills and knowledge.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, or Packaging Engineering, with 2-3 years of relevant experience.
  • Proficiency in CAD software, preferably Solid Works or AutoCAD.
  • Strong understanding of GD&T standards (e.g., ASME Y14.5).
  • Knowledge of packaging design, testing standards (ISO, Mil-spec, ASTM, ISTA), and distribution packaging.
  • Understanding of protective packaging materials and failure mechanisms.
  • Ability to accurately measure with tools like tape measures, calipers, and scales.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.
  • Team-oriented with accountability and a focus on continuous improvement.
