Fire Sprinkler Design Manager Own the design that protects lives and property
You lead from the front. You know fire sprinkler and suppression design inside and out, and you’re ready to take charge of a design team that keeps people and buildings safe.
In this role, you’ll run the fire protection design department – guiding designers, tightening standards, and making sure every drawing that leaves your group is accurate, constructible, and code-compliant.
You’ll be the authority on NFPA standards and local codes, the go-to problem solver for complex hydraulic and layout challenges, and the voice of design in meetings with project managers, field teams, AHJs, and clients.
If you’ve been designing fire sprinkler systems for years and are ready to own the department, we want to talk to you.
What You'll Work OnYou’ll oversee the full design lifecycle of fire sprinkler and suppression systems across diverse projects:
- Multi-family residential sprinkler systems
- Fire suppression system layouts and calculations
- Hydraulic calculations and system sizing
- Design standards, templates, and workflows
- Permitting and AHJ coordination
- Cross-functional coordination with project managers and field teams
You’ll work with AutoCAD, Revit, Microsoft Office, and fire protection design tools such as Sprink Cad and HydroCAD.
Your challenge: lead a high-performing design group that delivers clean, compliant, buildable fire protection designs on time.
What You'll Be Doing- Managing and mentoring a team of fire sprinkler designers
- Overseeing design of fire sprinkler and suppression systems for commercial, industrial, and multi-family projects
- Ensuring all designs comply with NFPA standards, local codes, and project specifications
- Reviewing and approving design drawings, calculations, and submittals prepared by design staff
- Coordinating design requirements with project managers and field personnel
- Developing and maintaining departmental design standards, templates, and workflows
- Supporting permitting processes and responding to AHJ inquiries
- Assisting with resource allocation, project planning, and departmental budgeting
- Leading design reviews and driving technical problem solving
Championing continuous improvement initiatives within the design department - Participating in client meetings to represent the design team and technical solutions
- High school diploma required; technical training or degree preferred
- 8+ years of fire sprinkler design experience
- 3+ years of design team management or supervisory experience
- Extensive knowledge of fire sprinkler systems, hydraulics, and NFPA standards
- Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, and project requirements
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and Revit
- Experience with fire protection design software
- Comfort with Microsoft Office applications
- Ability to perform prolonged computer work and occasionally climb a ladder
- NICET Level III or IV in Fire Protection Engineering preferred
You’re the person everyone already leans on for code interpretation, complex hydraulic calculations, and tough layout calls. You’ve run projects end-to-end, guided junior designers, and you’re ready to formalize that leadership as the department lead.
You’ve been through permitting battles with AHJs, you know how to speak the language of both the office and the field, and you’re passionate about building a disciplined, consistent design operation that others can rely on.
Why This Opportunity? You’re not just another designer in the corner – you’re the one steering the entire design function for a dedicated fire protection group with its own fabrication capability and decades of experience behind it.
You’ll shape standards, mentor the next generation of designers, and be central to how complex commercial, industrial, and multi-family projects get protected.
Backed by comprehensive benefits, education, and training programs, you’ll have the support to keep growing your technical and leadership game.
