M365 Collaboration Engineer

Overview

We are seeking a senior, hands-on Microsoft 365 Collaboration Engineer to serve as the technical lead and owner for our collaboration platform. This role is a customer-facing individual contributor with deep expertise in SharePoint, Teams, and One Drive, as well as identity-driven access via Microsoft 365 Groups and Access Packages.

This is not a people-manager role. You will lead through technical ownership, influence, and execution, working closely with business stakeholders while partnering with a small, high-impact engineering team. Our environment is fully cloud-based Microsoft 365, with only minimal, disconnected hybrid components.

• Act as the lead engineer and primary owner for Microsoft 365 collaboration services like SharePoint Online, Microsoft Teams, and One Drive for Business.
• Design, implement, and enhance collaboration solutions that align with business needs and security standards.
• Serve as the escalation point for complex collaboration platform issues.
• Architect and manage access to collaboration resources using Microsoft 365 Groups.
• Implement governance models around access, lifecycle management, and entitlement reviews.
• Own storage strategy across SharePoint, Teams, and One Drive.
• Implement and manage:
  Retention policies, Cleanup and lifecycle processes, Information governance controls.
• Drive best practices around content organization, data hygiene, and long-term scalability.
• Work directly with internal customers and business leaders to gather requirements and deliver collaboration solutions.
• Contribute to standards, documentation, and platform roadmaps.

• 6+ years of experience supporting or engineering Microsoft 365 environments.
• Deep, hands-on experience with:
  SharePoint Online, Microsoft Teams, One Drive for Business, and strong expertise with Microsoft 365 Groups.
• Proficient in Access Packages / Identity Governance (Entra  / Azure AD).
• Experience designing and supporting cloud-first or cloud-only collaboration platforms.
• Proven ability to operate as a senior individual contributor with platform ownership.
• Excellent communication skills and comfort working directly with non-technical stakeholders.
