IDR is seeking a Data Center Fiber Testing Lead to join a remote opportunity. This role involves providing technical leadership and execution for fiber testing projects within large-scale data centers across the US and Canada. It offers an exciting chance to support cutting-edge data center infrastructure in a dynamic industry environment.
Position Overview for the Data Center Fiber Testing Lead:- Execute fiber acceptance testing (OLTS, OTDR), analyze test results, troubleshoot failed optics, diagnose causes, and articulate findings to site and management.
- Provide on-site technical leadership, elevate only habitual or unresolved issues, self-govern day-to-day problems, and communicate status to project management or elevate as needed.
- Support national projects, including data center rack builds, structured cabling, and fiber testing, based on project demands.
- Be 100% onsite in a road warrior capacity, traveling across various locations in the US and Canada, often staying 4-5 weeks at each site.
- Work in a fast-paced environment with variable hours, ranging from 40 to 90+ hours per week depending on project needs.
- Proven experience with fiber testing and troubleshooting in data center environments, including OLTS and OTDR testing (EXFO preferred).
- Ability to troubleshoot failed optics, understand fiber types, connector types, fiber polarity, and root cause analysis.
- Strong technical knowledge of fiber types, MPO-8 / MPO-12, LC-to-LC connections, OS2, and different optic/connection types.
- Willingness to be 100% onsite, with a road-warrior mindset to travel extensively within the US and Canada.
- Valid driver’s license and the ability to pass customer background checks covering records up to 12-15 years.
