Job Brief

Review, evaluate, and analyze work environments and design programs and procedures to control, eliminate, and prevent disease or injury caused by chemical, physical, and biological agents, or ergonomic factors. May conduct inspections and enforce adherence to laws and regulations governing the health and safety of individuals. Implement and conduct evaluation of programs designed to limit chemical, physical, biological, and ergonomic risks to workers.

Safety coordinators conduct safety training sessions, respond to incident reports, and develop plans for different emergency scenarios. This individual must understand industry regulations for workplace safety and designing practices and procedures that comply with those expectations.

Responsibilities

• Recommend measures to help protect workers from potentially hazardous work methods, processes, or materials.
• Handling risk assessments to gather information on safety issues.
• Order suspension of activities that pose threats to workers' health or safety.
• Investigate accidents to identify causes or to determine how such accidents might be prevented in the future.
• Ensuring compliance with OSHA, federal and state regulations.
• Report and complete OSHA violations and/or injuries.
• Understanding of OSHA forms 300, 300A, 301
• Inspect or evaluate workplace environments, equipment, or practices to ensure compliance with safety standards and government regulations.
• Collaborate with engineers or physicians to institute control or remedial measures for hazardous or potentially hazardous conditions or equipment.
• Advise company regarding health or safety issues.
• Inspect work environments monthly to ensure safety.
• Collaborate with healthcare professionals to plan or provide treatment.
• Consult with others regarding safe equipment and/or facilities. Verifying that employees consistently follow safety protocols.
• Conduct on-boarding and remedial training for new hires and current staff. Teaching supervisors, managers, and other leaders in the company about health and safety standards.
