Description
The Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing company vehicles, equipment, and mechanical systems to ensure safe and reliable operation. This role performs routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs while following company safety standards and manufacturer guidelines.
The Mechanic works closely with maintenance staff and operations personnel to ensure equipment and vehicles are properly maintained and downtime is minimized.
Key Responsibilities Equipment and Vehicle Maintenance- Perform routine maintenance on company vehicles and equipment, including inspections, oil changes, brake servicing, and tune-ups.
- Diagnose mechanical issues using testing equipment and visual inspections.
- Repair or replace defective parts, components, or systems.
- Ensure all repairs are completed safely and according to manufacturer specifications.
- Identify mechanical problems and determine appropriate repair solutions.
- Repair engines, transmissions, brakes, steering systems, and other mechanical components.
- Use diagnostic tools and equipment to assess mechanical performance.
- Test repaired equipment to ensure proper operation.
- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance to reduce equipment failures and extend equipment life.
- Maintain maintenance schedules and service logs.
- Inspect vehicles and equipment to identify potential issues before failures occur.
- Follow all workplace safety guidelines and procedures.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Ensure equipment meets company and regulatory safety standards.
- Properly handle and dispose of hazardous materials such as oils and solvents.
- Record maintenance and repair activities in maintenance logs or systems.
- Report major repair needs or equipment concerns to supervisors.
- Maintain accurate service records for company vehicles and equipment.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Technical training in automotive or mechanical repair preferred.
- 2-5 years of experience in mechanical repair or maintenance.
- Experience working with commercial vehicles, heavy equipment, or fleet vehicles preferred.
- ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certification or similar mechanical certifications preferred.
- Commercial vehicle or diesel mechanic certifications may be preferred depending on equipment.
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting and repair skills.
- Knowledge of automotive systems and mechanical components.
- Ability to operate diagnostic tools and repair equipment.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to lift, carry, and move equipment and parts weighing up to 50 pounds or more.
- Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and work in various physical positions for extended periods.
- Ability to work in environments with noise, grease, and mechanical equipment.
This role typically operates in a maintenance shop or industrial environment and may involve exposure to mechanical equipment, vehicle exhaust, tools, and varying temperatures.
