Job Description

The Elementary Teacher provides learning experiences in language arts, social studies, reading, arithmetic, science, art, physical education, and music to students, guided by the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and district standards and requirements.

Reporting Structure

The Elementary Teacher reports to the principal and may direct a Teaching Assistant if one is assigned to the classroom.

Qualifications
  • Prek‑2 Early Childhood Licensure in Massachusetts by the Department of Elementary & Secondary Education (required).
  • Bachelor's Degree (Master’s preferred) from an accredited college or university in a related field.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, to children and adults.
  • Commitment to remain current in content knowledge and teaching strategies.
  • Alternative qualifications acceptable if in conformity with state certification requirements.
Duties
  • Provide learning experiences in language arts, social studies, reading, arithmetic, science, art, physical education, and music to students, guided by the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and district standards and requirements, while creating an environment conducive to student learning and involvement.
  • Monitor students’ understanding of the curriculum effectively and adjust instruction, materials, or assessments when appropriate.
  • Evaluate, try innovative approaches, and refine instructional strategies, including the effective use of technologies available to teachers, to increase student learning, involvement, and confidence to learn.
  • Demonstrate appreciation for and sensitivity to the diversity among individuals and strive to ensure equitable opportunities for student learning.
  • Maintain and improve professional competence through attendance at professional development events, and by self‑generated activities that meet district expectations and the requirements for re‑certification.
  • Share responsibility for accomplishing the goals and priorities of his/her grade/team/department, building and school district, attending all faculty and committee meetings as required, and district‑wide committees as needed.
  • Other duties, as assigned.
Physical Working Conditions

Work involves student interaction and is performed primarily in a classroom setting.

Evaluation

The teacher will be evaluated as per Article IV in the Teacher’s Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Salary Range

Bachelors/Step 2: $57,919 – Doctorate/Step 15: $117,048

Salary

$57,919 to $117,048 per year.

Job Requirements
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience preferred.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Citizenship, residency or work visa required.
