Job Title:Special Education Coordinator Requirements
- Master’s Degree with a major in educational administration
- Valid, current Nebraska teaching certificate in Special Education and Administration and Supervision
- Training and/or experience in Special Education teaching
Reports to:
Building principals;
Director of Student Programs
Receives Guidance From:
Building principals;
Director of Student Programs
Terms of Employment:
Nine-month year or as established by the Board of Education.
Initial salary placement will be determined by using the current certified salary structure plus 10 days of per diem of the current base salary.
Evaluation:
Evaluated annually by the building principal and/or Director of Student Programs in accordance with provisions of the district’s Personnel Evaluation Policy.
- Consistent and punctual "on-site" attendance at the worksite is an essential job function
- Assists the building principal with the daily functions of the building, with emphasis in Special Education (LIFE, Early Childhood Education, Resource, Behavior).
- Assists with the behavioral needs of students.
- Attends special education meetings as a District Representative on an as-needed basis
- Prepares periodic reports on the status of the program to the principal, director of student programs, and the school board
- Ensures coordination of services and articulation between the early childhood and elementary levels of the instructional program by communicating frequently with building principals
- Assists the building principal as an instructional leader of the school, ensuring the implementation of best practices in the areas of curriculum, assessment, and instruction.
- Maintains a positive school climate and effectively manages student discipline.
- Motivates others to achieve personal, building, and district goals
- Evaluates existing programs and practices, including curriculum content and pilot programs
- Implements curriculum and establishes educational objectives consistent with district goals
- Oversees a program of instructional supervision and evaluation, including classroom and teaching observations in accordance with board policies
- Supervises and evaluates personnel; assesses employee performance. Provides guidance, accountability, and support as needed.
- Maintains accountability and proper documentation for the support services, communications, professional development, and student discipline
- Establishes teacher expectations that encourage accountability, growth, and excellence;
Facilitates professional development activities for staff, in coordination with district administration - Monitors student achievement by collecting and analyzing data in accordance with state and local standards and the current needs of students
- Coordinates the integration of subject matter specialists, resource teachers, and other building staff
- Assesses training needs and organize on- and off-site training opportunities
- Addresses staff, parent, and student concerns in a timely manner
- Continues to grow professionally through collaboration and professional growth experiences
- Responsible for other duties as they may be assigned by the Central Office Directors, the Superintendent, or the Board of Education
