TRIO Student Support Services Program Support

The purpose of this position is to provide support to current students served by the TRIO Student Support Services program to improve their probability of success so that they will retain from semester to semester, persist until graduation and, if applicable, have positive transfer experiences.

Skills and abilities

required of this position include knowledge of student support functions; ability to handle multiple priorities; effective verbal, written, and listening interpersonal communication skills; ability to relate effectively and work collaboratively with students and institutional personnel; ability to create and conduct seminars and workshops; perform all instructional related activities for post-secondary coursework; proficiency with a variety of computer technologies, such as databases, internet spreadsheets, tracking systems and word processing;

a high degree of professionalism and personal integrity; ability to work independently, but also a member of a complex team in an atmosphere of frequently changing priorities; and sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse backgrounds of students with a wide range of skills, motivations and academic goals.

This is a grant funded position through the U.S. Department of Education, with the potential for continuous funding for five years, and the ability to apply for additional funding thereafter.

Education:

Bachelor's degree required in a related field.

Experience:

Requires three years of experience providing academic and personal advising/coaching in a college setting; familiarity with financial aid, career exploration, and current issues affecting diverse student populations; and experience working with students from diverse backgrounds.

Skills:

Applicant should demonstrate strong attention to detail, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment. The role requires a student-centered approach, with outstanding interpersonal and customer service skills, and the ability to effectively guide and support students through academic planning and decision-making.
