Job DescriptionWe are seeking a motivated, energetic, and experienced Engineering Technician with a strong electrical background and AIT leadership experience to join our ship modernization and sustainment teams in Norfolk, VA. The ideal candidate is a hands‑on technical leader capable of driving immediate results in shipboard upgrades, repairs, and system installations.
Depending on the initiative, the successful candidate may operate as a Project Lead and/or Electrical Subject Matter Expert (SME), overseeing shipboard electrical installations, leading technical teams, and serving as a key interface with Program Managers, customers, and subcontractors.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Serve as the electrical SME and project lead for hull and steel repair projects.
- Lead electrical teams in cableway management, cable installation, terminations, connectorizations, and testing.
- Interpret NAVSEA drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications to plan and execute electrical work packages in compliance with applicable standards.
- Supervise and mentor junior, senior electricians, and helpers to ensure quality and safety.
- Collaborate with Project Leads, Program Managers, Engineers, QA & QC, and customer representatives to resolve issues and align project goals.
- Assist in tracking and reporting daily progress, labor hours, material usage, scheduling, and forecasting.
- Ensure all electrical work adheres to NAVSEA, ABS, OSHA regulations, and company policies.
- Maintain QA documentation and OQE, including pre‑ and post‑installation inspections.
- Identify and mitigate project risks, support change orders, and contribute to after‑action reporting.
- Perform duties as Site Foreman when required, managing overall task assignments.
- Submit Daily Status Reports, develop Condition Found Reports, and update progress using Microsoft Project in POA&M format.
- 10 years of direct hands‑on experience working with shipboard Navy HM&E or electronic systems.
- 5 to 7 years of experience overseeing and directing Project‑Level initiatives.
- Experience directing daily production to meet schedule milestones.
- Copper Connector Certified with fiber optic experience.
- Possess NAVSEA Cableway Inspector, Fiber, and Copper Connectorization Certifications.
- Proven ability to supervise technical teams of 5 to 10 tradespersons on Navy ships.
- Knowledge of AIT processes, shipboard safety procedures, and electrical system testing.
- Ability to interpret NAVSEA drawings and electrical schematics.
- Familiarity with QA practices and OQE & QAWB documentation.
- Must have or be able to obtain a Secret Security Clearance.
- High school diploma, GED, or industrial school certificate.
- Ability to travel up to 15% of the time.
- Certified in Multi‑pin Connectors IAW MIL‑STD‑2003‑5B.
- Certified in Fiber Optic IAW 2042C standards.
- 7+ years as a Marine Electrician with supervisory responsibilities.
- Experience maintaining budgets and materials.
- Certified for wireway inspections per NAVSEA Standard Items.
- Strong problem‑solving and reporting skills.
- Experience communicating with management, subcontractors, and customers on cost, staffing, and scheduling.
- Background preparing status reports and ensuring contract compliance.
- Exposure to open‑air environments, noisy, hot, and cold conditions.
- Visit project sites aboard ships and rigs, onshore and offshore.
- Wear various PPE such as hearing, eye, head, and hand protection.
