Michael Foods, Inc's. Norfolk, Nebraska location is northwest of Omaha. The area is known for their manufacturing, farming (both livestock and grain), education, retailing, and wholesaling. Well-known as the home of Johnny Carson. Our location produces powdered and dehydrated meat and poultry products, for use in products such as seasonings, soups, and instant meals.

Responsibilities

The Lead Person is responsible for working with the department supervisor. S/he will train new and existing personnel, help ensure a safe work environment and assign work tasks to department personnel. S/he will adhere to safe work practices, follow GMP's, maintain sanitary conditions and ensure that product quality is maintained. This position always has the responsibility to comply with Safety work rules as well as an obligation to reinforce Safety as a Core Value.

Ensures that all policies, procedures and activities, related to Food Safety & Quality, are followed and complied with uniformly, to reduce product and process variability.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists in training processing and production personnel in assigned department. Assists supervisor with updating training for existing personnel whenever equipment changes are instituted, or new procedures are implemented.
  • Assigns work tasks to department personnel.
  • Assists with safety audits.
  • Helps maintain control records related to processing
  • Maintains effective working relationship between members of department and other areas.
  • Continually monitors lines for quality product and notifies all appropriate personnel if discrepancy is found.
  • Monitors processing equipment on a continual basis to maintain proper production standards.
  • Reports and fills out notifications for maintenance issues as they relate to productivity, food safety, quality and human safety.
  • Encourages suggestions from employees to improve productivity, quality or control cost of production.
  • Maintains accurate downtime records and daily shift report of all equipment in assigned area.
  • Accurately and timely completes daily paperwork, SAP (System Applications Product in Data Processing), PEB and Bill of Lading as needed.
  • Operates forklift and pallet jack as needed.
  • Follows proper SOP's (Standard Operation Procedures)
  • Use appropriate safety equipment when required (ear plugs, rubber boots, safety glasses, face shields, aprons, bump caps, etc.) Use lockout/tagout procedures when required
  • Complete internal HACCP training
  • Follow all SQF principles pertinent to your position as specified by the SQF Practitioner.
  • Report all Food Safety & Quality issues to a Supervisor, QA Manager, or at Senior Manager.
  • Assumes personal responsibility to insure safe and healthy workplace for everyone. Adhere to all safety policies and procedures and, incorporate safety and health in all jobs and tasks.
  • Adhere to Quality work practices, follow GMP's, maintain sanitary conditions and ensure that product quality is maintained. Report to management any conditions or practices that may adversely affect food safety and quality.
  • Able to work weekends, holidays and overtime as needed.
  • Ensures regulatory compliance at all times.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Preferred Education,

Experience and Skills:

  • Previous forklift and/or pallet jack experience desired.
  • Associate's degree (AA) or equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience.
  • Must have basic computer skills (excel, word, etc)
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals in English.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups, customers/vendors or employees of the organization.
