Location Description

Michael Foods, Inc’s Norfolk, Nebraska location is northwest of Omaha. The area is known for its manufacturing, farming (both livestock and grain), education, retailing, and wholesaling. Well‑known as the home of Johnny Carson. Our location produces powdered and dehydrated meat and poultry products, for use in products such as seasonings, soups, and instant meals.

Responsibilities

Position Summary:

The Lead Person is responsible for working with the department supervisor. The Lead Person will train new and existing personnel, help ensure a safe work environment, and assign work tasks to department personnel. They will adhere to safe work practices, follow GMP’s, maintain sanitary conditions, and ensure that product quality is maintained. This position always has the responsibility to comply with safety work rules as well as an obligation to reinforce safety as a core value.

The Lead Person ensures that all policies, procedures, and activities related to food safety and quality are followed and complied with uniformly, to reduce product and process variability.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist in training processing and production personnel in the assigned department and assist the supervisor with updating training for existing personnel whenever equipment changes are instituted or new procedures are implemented.
  • Assign work tasks to department personnel.
  • Assist with safety audits.
  • Help maintain control records related to processing.
  • Maintain an effective working relationship between members of the department and other areas.
  • Continually monitor the lines for quality product and notify all appropriate personnel if a discrepancy is found.
  • Monitor processing equipment on a continual basis to maintain proper production standards.
  • Report and fill out notifications for maintenance issues as they relate to productivity, food safety, quality or human safety.
  • Encourage suggestions from employees to improve productivity, quality or control production cost.
  • Maintain accurate downtime records and daily shift reports of all equipment in the assigned area.
  • Accurately and timely complete daily paperwork, SAP (System Applications Product in Data Processing), PEB and Bill of Lading as needed.
  • Operate forklift and pallet jack as needed.
  • Follow proper SOP’s (Standard Operation Procedures).
  • Use appropriate safety equipment when required (ear plugs, rubber boots, safety glasses, face shields, aprons, bump caps, etc.) and use lockout/tagout procedures when required.
  • Complete internal HACCP training.
  • Follow all SQF principles pertinent to your position as specified by the SQF Practitioner.
  • Report all Food Safety & Quality issues to a Supervisor, QA Manager, or at Senior Manager.
  • Assume personal responsibility to ensure a safe and healthy workplace for everyone. Adhere to all safety policies and procedures and incorporate safety and health in all jobs and tasks.
  • Adhere to quality work practices, follow GMP’s, maintain sanitary conditions, and ensure that product quality is maintained. Report to management any conditions or practices that may adversely affect food safety and quality.
  • Able to work weekends, holidays and overtime as needed.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance at all times.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Preferred Education,

Experience and Skills:

  • Previous forklift and/or pallet jack experience desired.
  • Associate’s degree (AA) or equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience.
  • Must have basic computer skills (Excel, Word, etc.).
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals in English.
