Job Description

The Nebraska Department of Health & Human Services (DHHS) contributes to the lives and health of Nebraskans every day. Our mission, “Helping people live better lives,” motivates us to make a difference. We are looking for skilled, professional Registered Nurses to join our team at the Norfolk Regional Center (NRC). In this role you will be an integral part of our Behavioral Health Division and provide critical care to adult patients with mental illness at NRC.

The NRC was created by an act of the Legislature in 1885 and serves adult males committed by a Mental Health Board for inpatient psychiatric treatment. Since 2006 it has also treated individuals who have sexually offended. In 2018 the NRC opened the Medical Support Program to provide high‑quality nursing and medical treatment for men with significant physical conditions and psychiatric, cognitive, and aging issues.

  • Assessment
  • Documentation
  • Patient interventions
  • Case management
  • Medical administration
  • Review of doctors' orders
  • Arrange for lab protocols
  • May lead/direct the work of other nurses and/or paraprofessional staff
Available Shift Options8‑Hour Shifts
  • Day Shift: 6:45 a.m. – 3:15 p.m.
  • Evening Shift: 2:45 p.m. – 11:15 p.m.
  • Night Shift: 11:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m.
12‑Hour Shifts
  • Midday Shift: 10:45 a.m. – 11:15 p.m.
  • Day Shift: 6:45 a.m. – 7:15 p.m.
  • Overnight Shift: 6:45 p.m. – 7:15 a.m.
Scheduling Structure
  • Two 8‑hour shifts and two 12‑hour shifts each week
  • Every 3rd weekend rotation
Requirements / Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: A current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Nebraska or authority under the Nurse Licensure Compact to practice in Nebraska.

Other: Consideration will be given to applicants who will receive a degree/​license within 90 days of application. Candidates must obtain licensure before employment. Valid driver’s license or access to independent authorized transportation is required.
