American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for a 13-week acute care assignment requiring 1 year of Med/Surg experience and EPIC documentation proficiency.
Details- 38-bed Med/Surg unit in a Level 3 trauma acute care setting
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5-6 days and nights, must be able to take 6 patients
- High turnover unit with frequent discharges and admissions
- Patient population includes older teens and adults with diagnoses such as pneumonia, UTI, dehydration, influenza, alcohol withdrawal, and respiratory viruses
- Surgical patient population includes ortho (hips, knees, shoulders), general surgery (appendix, gallbladder, bowel), spinal surgery, and urology
- RNs required to titrate drips including Heparin, and administer set rate drips such as Bumex and Lasix
- Cardiac tech available 24/7; RNs not required to read own telemetry strips
- 24/7 nursing supervisor coverage with two charge nurses on day shift and one on night shift, none of whom typically take patients
- Nurse aides available at 1:8-1:10 ratio to assist with accuchecks and vital signs
- Respiratory therapy support available 24/7 for equipment including trachs, CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow
- EPIC EMR used for documentation
- 3x12 hour day shifts
- Weekend and holiday coverage required as needed
- Standby/call requirement for low census situations
- May float to IMCU for Med/Surg assignments
- No self-scheduling for travel RNs, though blocked scheduling may be accommodated
- Active RN license (NE or Compact) required
- BLS (AHA) certification required
- Minimum 1 year of Med/Surg nursing experience required
- EPIC charting experience required
- Must be able to take 1:6 patient ratio
- Bedside shift report experience required
- Experience with the specific shift (days vs nights) being applied for is preferred
- Responsibilities include bedside shift report, proactive patient rounding, and answering call lights
- Strong teamwork expected, including collaboration with CNAs
- Unit/department specific orientation consists of 1.5 shifts
- Navy blue scrubs required
- Must reside within a 45-mile radius of the facility
- Cancellation policy allows up to 3 shifts per 13-week assignment
