Who we are…

The Yukon Bureau of Statistics (YBS) is a branch of the Yukon government (YG) in the Department of Finance. YBS helps governments, businesses and residents of Yukon make informed decisions with the provision of timely and reliable statistical information. The Bureau collects, analyses and publishes statistical information, and works on statistical research projects and data modelling.

YBS collaborates with and assists YG departments in providing professional expertise and support in data collection, analysis and statistical research. The Bureau also collaborates with Statistics Canada, other federal departments, and provincial/territorial statistical agencies on matters of mutual interest and exchanges ideas and information with them.

We are seeking a motivated, analytical individual who is comfortable analyzing data for both short-term fluctuations and long-term trends. The Analyst – Research and Publication is responsible for the compilation and analyses of data and the production of briefing/information notes and publications on a comprehensive array of topics. In addition, the position involves researching information; monitoring information releases by Statistics Canada; maintaining accurate methodology notes and metadata related to statistical releases; responding to requests for statistical information; publishing data products to Yukon government websites, associated data platforms, and social media accounts;

and other related functions.

  • Compiling and analyzing data;
  • Preparing briefing and information notes;
  • Developing reports and publications on topics covering demographic, economic, employment, housing, and social statistics for Yukon and its communities.

Your ability to write clear reports to present results of data analysis with context and identify any inconsistencies in the data will be important. Your attention to detail, collaborative approach, and commitment to client service will be key to your success in this role.

In this role, you will be supported to learn about data releases from Statistics Canada and other agencies; evaluate their relevance; and deliver meaningful insights related to the social and economic conditions in Yukon. You will also have opportunities to enhance your skills in research and analysis as you respond to requests for statistical information, and work with counterparts at Statistics Canada on various data-related issues.
