Overview

The purpose of this position is to support store operations for the independent college bookstore while serving as a resource for part-time staff and students. The Retail Services Specialist acts as a primary point of contact for customers within the retail environment and assists with daily store functions. This position also assists with the management and maintenance of the Hawk Shop e-commerce website, including site design, product placement, catalog updates, uploading vendor images, and maintaining connections to social media platforms.

Design tools such as Canva or Adobe are used to create website graphics, promotional materials, and marketing content.

Responsibilities
  • Operate the point-of-sale system, process transactions, handle cash, and use software applications related to merchandise and textbook purchasing.
  • Assist with the management and maintenance of the Hawk Shop e-commerce website, including site design, product placement, catalog updates, uploading vendor images, and maintaining connections to social media platforms.
  • Utilize design tools such as Canva or Adobe to create website graphics, promotional materials, and marketing content.
  • Coordinate custom apparel and merchandise orders for campus clubs, departments, and athletic teams by managing artwork that aligns with college branding guidelines, creating purchase orders, receiving merchandise, ensuring product quality, and supporting online promotions and events.
  • Assist with custom embroidery and product decoration.
  • Provide information about course material options, pricing, and publisher delivery methods to students and faculty; assist faculty with course material adoption processes that promote affordability and student success.
  • Collaborate with Accounts Payable to resolve invoice discrepancies; work with vendors to address damaged or missing merchandise; assist with product returns at the end of each semester; reconcile buyback transactions; maintain accurate sales tax rates for in-store and online sales.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational and communication skills, attention to detail, the ability to prioritize tasks with limited supervision, and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Retail and Print Services.
Qualifications
  • Experience or familiarity with point-of-sale systems, cash handling, and software applications related to merchandise and textbook purchasing is preferred.
  • Experience with e-commerce site management and online merchandising is preferred.
  • Proficiency with Canva or Adobe for creating graphics is preferred.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills; attention to detail; ability to prioritize tasks and work with limited supervision; ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
