Position Summary

We are seeking skilled Marine Electricians II for our Fleet Services in Norfolk, VA. The successful candidate will perform ship repairs, modernization, and Alteration Installation Team (AIT) projects within our Fleet Services Group.

Responsibilities
  • Inspect, repair, install, modify, and maintain electrical/electronic systems, circuits, and equipment.
  • Set up, check, and correct operational and experimental electrical machinery, circuitry, and equipment according to guidelines and engineering specifications.
  • Perform component or system troubleshooting to diagnose problems and recommend cost‑effective repairs.
  • Perform and/or verify mechanical alignments.
  • Provide on‑site field service for system grooms, checkouts, minor repairs, and system configuration validation.
  • Inspect and test electrical systems and equipment to locate and diagnose malfunctions using visual inspections and testing devices.
  • Assemble multi‑pin connectors and fiber‑optic connections.
  • Utilize industry and NAVSEA standard concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Repair and replace cables and connectors.
  • Participate in the installation and maintenance of combat systems, PLCs, AC and DC generators, switchboards, distribution panels, lighting, and alarm circuits.
Requirements
  • Read, interpret, and understand simple schematics and blueprints.
  • Repair and replace cables and connectors.
  • Install and maintain AC and DC generators, switchboards, distribution panels, lighting, and alarm circuits.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and install electronic equipment and cables.
  • Familiarity with NAVSEA standards and procedures for electrical repair, fabrication, and installation.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a SECRET clearance and DBIDS.
  • Basic hand tool proficiency.
  • Ability to walk, stand for long periods, sit, bend, stretch, reach, squat, and twist.
  • Can lift, carry, and transport heavy equipment (minimum 30 lbs).
  • Capable of working on and climbing ladders, in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, industrial conditions, and confined spaces.
  • Prepared for duties involving high heat, humidity, noise, dirty conditions, working aloft or over vessel sides, and extended sea service.
  • May wear a respirator and travel within and outside the continental U.S.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Cableway Certified.
  • Certification in multi‑pin connectors per MIL‑STD‑20035A.
  • Certified in fiber‑optic systems (CFOS/O, CFOS/C, CFOS/S, CFOS/T, CFOS/FC).
  • Experience with PLCs, fiber optics, and integrated network systems.
  • Minimum 7 years as a marine electrician with at least 3 years supervisory experience.
  • Experience maintaining budgets and material management for electrical/electro‑mechanical systems on ferries, dredges, and military vessels.
  • Current certification to perform wire‑way inspections per NAVSEA standards.
  • Microsoft Office knowledge.
  • Ability to identify and recommend material and part replacements.
  • Write reports, suggest solutions, and instruct helpers, apprentices, or less‑skillful electricians.
