Northeast Nebraska Telephone Company (NNTC) is seeking a dependable, hardworking Construction Worker to join our Construction Crew. This entry-level position is ideal for someone who enjoys working outdoors, operating equipment, and learning new skills.
As a member of our team, you'll help build, maintain, and repair NNTC's telecommunications network while operating a variety of construction equipment. No telecommunications experience is required—we provide on-the-job training and opportunities to grow your skills and career.
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
- Assist with the construction, maintenance, install and repair of NNTC's telecommunications network, which is 100% underground fiber.
- Operate and maintain construction equipment, including plows, boring machines, backhoes, skid steers, and other equipment as assigned.
- Learn construction techniques and telecommunications installation procedures through on-the-job training.
- Complete assigned work safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project schedules and customer commitments.
- Communicate professionally with customers, contractors, and fellow employees.
- Inspect, operate, and maintain tools, equipment, and company vehicles to ensure safe operation.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work site while securing equipment at the end of each workday.
- Adapt to changing technology, equipment, procedures, and business needs.
- Work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
- Travel throughout NNTC's service area and occasionally outside the region, including overnight travel when required.
- Respond to emergency callouts and after-hours service requests as needed.
- Successfully complete all required training, certifications, and coursework.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Construction experience is preferred but not required.
- Willingness to learn construction skills and operate heavy equipment.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong work ethic and commitment to workplace safety.
- Valid driver's license with a safe driving record.
- Ability to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within the required timeframe after hire.
- Ability to successfully pass a background check and drug screening.
- Degree or certificate in Construction, Heavy Equipment Operation, or a related field.
- Three or more years of construction experience, preferably in the telecommunications industry.
- Experience operating heavy equipment, including plows, boring machines, backhoes, or skid steers.
- Current Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
- Experience with fiber optic installation, qualification, or testing.
This position requires the ability to:
- Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull up to 75 pounds
, with occasional lifting of heavier materials using team lifting techniques or mechanical assistance. - Perform physically demanding work for extended periods.
- Climb ladders and safely enter and exit construction equipment.
- Bend, kneel, crouch, stoop, crawl, reach, twist, and work in confined spaces.
- Stand and walk for extended periods, including on uneven ground.
- Use hand tools, power tools, and heavy equipment safely and effectively.
- Possess sufficient vision, hearing, and manual dexterity to safely perform assigned job duties.
- Work is performed primarily outdoors in a variety of weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, snow, mud, dust, and wind.
- Regular exposure to construction sites, moving equipment, traffic, and loud noise.
- Position requires travel throughout NNTC's service area, with overnight travel at times.
- Emergency callouts, overtime, evening, weekend, and holiday work may be required to restore service during outages or emergencies.
