Job Summary

The Attendance Technician serves as the school division's attendance officer by monitoring student attendance, addressing truancy, supporting dropout prevention efforts, and ensuring compliance with attendance laws and school policies. The role works closely with students, families, school staff, and court officials to improve attendance, manage attendance records, coordinate interventions, and promote student engagement and academic success.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Monitor daily student attendance and identify absenteeism and truancy patterns.
  • Review and maintain accurate attendance records and reports.
  • Conduct attendance conferences with students, parents, and school staff.
  • Communicate with families regarding attendance concerns and attendance requirements.
  • Conduct home visits for students with chronic absenteeism or truancy.
  • Support dropout prevention and intervention programs.
  • Coordinate with court officials and represent the school division in attendance-related legal matters.
  • Prepare legal documentation and attendance reports for court proceedings.
  • Maintain student attendance data using student information systems.
  • Ensure confidentiality of student records and information.
  • Collaborate with administrators, counselors, and community partners to resolve attendance issues.
  • Perform additional administrative and student support duties as assigned.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma required; some college coursework preferred.
  • Two (2) years of experience working with at-risk youth or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum one (1) year of customer service experience.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Knowledge of attendance laws, truancy procedures, and school policies.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with students, families, school staff, and court officials.
  • Proficiency with computer systems and data management.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
  • Ability to manage multiple cases and prioritize responsibilities.
