The Controls Systems Operations Manager will lead a Branch Systems operation team consisting of Systems Technicians and Systems Designers.
Duties include:
- Assign projects to Lead Systems Specialists and allocate appropriate resources (Systems Technicians and System Designers) to those projects.
- Provide site coordination support on projects with high contract complexity to the Lead Systems Specialist as needed.
- Ensure work performed complies with state, local and federal legal requirements and operates with the highest ethics.
- Adhere to and enforce Johnson Controls staff and subcontractor safety standards.
- Hire, retain, performance‑manage, and plan career development for direct reports.
- Prepare and deliver clear performance expectations, reviews, and development plans.
- Train and mentor System Technicians and System Designers.
- Facilitate Systems Operations Technical Training (SO TechT).
- Ensure delegated tasks are completed accurately, on time, billed, within budget, and within scope.
- Coordinate resources between Lead Systems Specialists to ensure timely, efficient installation and project completion.
- Recruit Systems Designers and Technicians with appropriate skills to meet Branch needs.
- Review and interpret contract terms, assist Lead Systems Specialists with site coordination tasks including representing Johnson Controls at meetings, coordinating subcontractors, project administration, and conflict resolution.
- Assist with evaluating contractual scope of work, client‑issued bulletins, field directives, and scheduling changes.
- Identify opportunities and pursue additional work through change orders.
- Assist in developing a Schedule of Values for high‑complexity projects requiring detailed billing.
- Participate in pre‑bid and pre‑book project reviews with sales staff.
- Develop and maintain viable long‑term relationships with contractors, clients, consultants, and subcontractors.
- Minimum of 5 years of proven HVAC experience.
- Extensive knowledge of air conditioning principles, with specific knowledge of Commercial Product lines.
- Minimum of a technical associate degree with six years of field experience or eight years of equivalent related field and site coordination experience in the HVAC industry.
- Relevant hands‑on experience, systems design, and commissioning of digital HVAC controls systems.
- Ability to communicate technical material to a non‑technical audience.
- Previous supervisory experience required.
- Solid coaching and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of control theory and HVAC systems.
- Knowledge of project accounting, costing principles, and contracting.
- Preferred Bachelor’s degree.
- Good computer skills.
- Leadership skills.
HIRING SALARY RANGE: $89,000–134,000 (Salary to be determined by education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, internal equity, and market data). This role offers a competitive bonus plan that considers individual, group, and corporate performance. The posted salary range reflects the target compensation for this role, though exceptional candidates may warrant consideration beyond the stated range.
