Job Description

Job Description

AECOM is seeking a Project Controls Analyst III to support our Buildings and Places Business Line in Roanoke, Virginia. This role can work remotely within the Eastern Time Zone.

The Project Controls Analyst plays an integral role in ensuring all assigned client projects succeed in attaining their financial, schedule, and performance targets as defined by the client contract and internal AECOM expectations. The role partners closely with Project Managers and project teams, supporting multiple projects while maintaining responsibility for project controls activities rather than project management, delivery decisions, or overall project outcomes.

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Maintain high standards of organization, accuracy, attention to detail, and data quality.
  • Prioritize and manage multiple competing project demands while meeting established deadlines.
  • Support fee-estimate development, pursuit strategy, and proposal preparation by developing and maintaining fee proposal templates, leveraging historical project cost data, and creating accurate fee proposals for comparable projects.
  • Develop contract-aligned project budgets in parallel with fee proposals, ensuring consistency between pricing, project execution plans, and financial objectives.
  • Enable team and PM self-sufficiency in fee proposal development by establishing proposal environments, providing tools and guidance, delivering coaching, and creating standardized procedures and how-to resources.
  • Support project setup and execution through budget development, WBS and CLM (Contract Lifecyle Management) administration, financial controls, forecasting cycles, EAC development, and performance reporting, including commitments, subcontractor expenditures, labor productivity, and progress tracking against approved forecasts.
  • Assist with procurement activities, including purchase orders, subcontract setup, commitment tracking, invoice review, and payment processing.
  • Support risk management, change management, and project recovery efforts through analysis and reporting.
  • Review project financial reports and KPIs to assess project health and identify risks, opportunities, variances, and emerging issues requiring management attention, estimate-to-complete, forecasted completion dates, unbilled balances, invoicing, and accounts receivable aging.
  • Provide objective analysis and timely decision-support information to Project Managers and project leadership.
  • Participate in Monthly/Quarterly project reviews tracking project status, % of completion, billing and monitor financial health.
  • Raise concerns early, challenge assumptions professionally, and provide clear recommendations based on data-driven analysis.
  • Coordinate closely with Project Managers, Finance, Procurement, and Project Approvers to support project execution and compliance.
  • COUPA PM Support: SAFs (Subcontractor Admin Form), coding, troubleshooting, reporting COUPA issues, place IT tickets, invoice research.
  • Support project closeout activities, including final invoicing, payment reconciliation, subcontractor closeout, and release of claims documentation.
  • Demonstrate advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other project controls, financial, and reporting systems.
  • Build collaborative working relationships and communicate effectively with project teams and stakeholders at all organizational levels.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to junior project controls staff, sharing best practices in forecasting, reporting, and project financial management.
  • Summary:
  • Success in this role requires strong analytical and communication skills, including the ability to identify emerging issues early, challenge assumptions constructively, communicate concerns professionally, and provide data-driven insights and recommendations to Project Managers and project leadership.
