Job Description

Role Overview:
The Crew Lead / Shift Supervisor is the on-site team leader for our cable handling crew during 12-hour shifts. This role oversees all crew activities on a barge, coordinates with the prime contractor’s supervisors, and ensures safe, efficient completion of undersea cable loading tasks. The Crew Lead also handles shift-level administration such as timekeeping and crew logistics.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise a crew of 12 cable handlers on a continuous 12-hour shift.
  • Serve as single point of contact with the prime contractor’s site lead for daily instructions and safety coordination.
  • Plan and delegate tasks (cable positioning, connector handling, monitoring duties) to crew members and adjust in real-time to maintain pace.
  • Monitor crew performance, conduct shift briefings and debriefings, and resolve any on-site issues swiftly (e.g., reposition crew if needed or address safety concerns).
  • Maintain accurate daily labor records/timesheets and ensure all hours are approved (our electronic timekeeping system is used, with this Crew Lead verifying entries).
  • Ensure critical crew functions are covered at all times, including personally stepping in if needed to maintain continuous operations (e.g., filling a gap due to a brief absence).
  • Enforce strict compliance with all safety procedures and personal protective equipment (PPE) use; lead daily safety toolbox talks at the start of each shift.
