Overview
The Virginia Zoo, founded in 1901, is located in Norfolk, VA and is home to more than 700 animals representing over 150 species. It resides on 53 acres and is mostly outdoors with an indoor World of Reptiles exhibit, 3 classrooms, and an indoor restaurant and gift shop.
PositionThe Virginia Zoo is looking to welcome to the team a Birthday Party Host. As the Birthday Party Host, you will be responsible for making every party a memorable experience by setting up, decorating, singing happy birthday, serving food, setting up games, and cleaning up. You will also ensure parties operate within the scheduled time slots to maintain adequate transition times between parties.
ScheduleSaturday & Sundays 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM. This is a part time, non-exempt position limited to no more than 16 hours per week. Candidates must have the ability to work weekends.
Duties / Responsibilities- Preparation, setup, and cleanup of event space for incoming birthday parties.
- Greet and escort incoming party to reservation area.
- Maintain time schedule throughout event.
- Assist Animal Ambassador Specialists during the event (providing hand sanitizer and crowd management).
- Provide event reports to events coordinator at end of day.
- Resolve any day-of-event issues that may occur.
- Other duties as assigned.

- High School Diploma or GED
- At least 2 years of customer service experience required.
- At least 1 year working in events or party rental space preferred.
- Prolonged periods of standing and moving.
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds capacity at times.
- Must be confident, energetic, and self-motivated with a desire to deliver outstanding customer service.
- Ability to maintain a professional appearance and manner.
- Ability to work in a team environment or alone for extended periods of time.
- Able to work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Ability to work with children of various ages including young children.
