Job Description
The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Old Dominion University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant (Associate) Professor in Applied Mathematics to begin in Fall 2026. We seek candidates whose research lies in an area of applied mathematics that both complements and enhances the department's existing strengths and supports the "mathematics for data science and AI" program.
The position carries a teaching load of two courses per semester, with a reduced load during the first two years to facilitate the development of a strong research program. In addition to teaching, the successful candidate is expected to actively pursue external research funding and supervise Ph.D. student research. Supervision of undergraduate research and participation in interdisciplinary collaborations-both within ODU and with external partners-are also encouraged.
Candidates seeking an appointment at the rank of Associate Professor should have an outstanding record of research accomplishments and demonstrated leadership, including mentoring junior faculty and contributing to departmental strategic initiatives.

Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics or a related discipline. Candidates who provide evidence that their Ph.D. will be conferred by July 25, 2026 will be considered for an Assistant Professor position.
Minimum required level and type of experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities
Preferred Qualifications
A strong publication record in respected journals, conferences, research program that complements and expands that of current faculty within the Department of Mathematics & Statistics.
A history of successful funding.
Experience in grant proposal writing.
Teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level.
Experience mentoring students and faculty is highly preferred for candidates applying for senior faculty appointments.
