Job DescriptionPrimary Function: SECEP is looking for a full‑time Education Specialist. The education specialist reports directly to the principal. This position is responsible for assisting the principal with supervision of teachers and classroom staff by providing the principal with supervisory feedback on the performance of teachers and other classroom staff aligned to each position’s appraisal standards. This position is responsible for providing instructional leadership, academic supports, and behavioral supports to the classroom staff and students assigned by the principal.
Additionally, duties include working with families, community agencies, public school personnel, and implementing reintegration opportunities for students.
- Master’s Degree in Education, School Psychology, Social Work, or related field (Required)
- Virginia Department of Education licensure (Required)
- Minimum of two (2) years of direct experience in providing and/or supervising classroom instruction (Required)
- Must have the physical ability to work effectively with students with challenging behaviors.
- Administration and Supervision – PK‑12 is required within 36 months of the hire date.
This position reports to the location Principal.
Essential Responsibilities- Assist the principal with supervision of teachers and classroom staff by providing supervisory feedback aligned to appraisal standards.
- Collaborate with classroom teacher and staff in designing coherent instruction based on subject matter, students, and their needs, community, and curriculum goals.
- Monitor teacher’s alignment, coordination, and delivery of IEP and instructional objectives with Virginia Standards and SECEP instructional materials.
- Understand, monitor, and implement, as needed, the requirements of the Virginia Assessment Program and district testing.
- Ensure use of valid assessments for data‑driven instruction.
- Select appropriate materials and resources to match instructional abilities and individual needs.
- Utilize school and community resources to assist teachers.
- Plan, model, and assist teacher with implementation of instructional content and research‑based strategies.
- Identify, analyze, and resolve instructional problems using problem‑solving techniques.
- Monitor classroom procedures and schedules to maximize on‑task time and ensure a safe environment.
- Provide staff development aligned with classroom and program needs.
- Assist teacher in developing behavioral intervention plans.
- Coordinate Health Care Plan/Services for assigned students.
- Perform all other duties as directed.
- Data Utilization: ability to review, classify, prioritize, and analyze data.
- Human Interaction: maintain cordial relationships with co‑workers, visitors, and clients.
- Equipment Utilization: use equipment, devices, and materials.
- Verbal Aptitude: utilize descriptive and advisory data.
- Mathematical Aptitude: perform basic arithmetic and interpret graphs.
- Functional Reasoning: apply independent judgment for problem resolution.
- Physical Ability: tasks may involve moderate physical demands, climbing, stooping, carrying, etc.
- Sensory Requirements: visual perception and oral communication ability.
