The Department of Physics at Norfolk State University invites applications for a one‑year term faculty position at the rank of Instructor or Lecturer. The department offers a Bachelor of Science in Physics, a Master’s degree in Materials Science, and a Doctorate in Materials Science and Engineering. The incumbent will demonstrate effectiveness in teaching, particularly in Introductory Physics with Calculus (lecture and laboratory) and Physical Science (lecture and laboratory).
Applicants with experience supporting students from diverse backgrounds and a commitment to expanding access to higher education for all are especially encouraged.
Successful candidates will exhibit a strong dedication to teaching excellence and actively promote the physics program through meaningful engagement with students, collaboration with other NSU departments, and outreach to the broader community. The position opened on April 30, 2026 and will remain open until filled; the appointment is expected to begin in August 2026.
Minimum Qualifications- Earned B.S. in Physics or a closely related field
- Earned M.S. in Physics or a closely related field
- Experience teaching and working with students from diverse backgrounds
