Position: 2026-2027 Lower School Counselor

Norfolk Collegiate School seeks a compassionate, student‑centered Lower School Counselor for the 2026–2027 academic year. This position supports the social‑emotional development and well‑being of students in Pre‑Kindergarten through Grade 5, working closely with students, faculty, and families to foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive school environment.

The ideal candidate will have experience working with elementary‑aged students, demonstrate strong communication and collaboration skills, and be committed to promoting student well‑being and resilience within a school community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide individual and small group counseling to support students' social‑emotional development
  • Design and deliver developmentally appropriate classroom guidance lessons
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and families to support student needs
  • Serve as a resource for faculty on social‑emotional learning strategies and classroom support
  • Assist in the development and implementation of school‑wide wellness initiatives
  • Support crisis response and provide guidance during student‑related concerns
  • Maintain accurate and confidential student records in accordance with school policies
  • Participate in student support team meetings and collaborate on intervention plans
Qualifications
  • Master's degree in School Counseling, Counseling, Psychology, or a related field
  • Experience working with elementary‑aged students in a school setting preferred
  • School counseling licensure
  • Strong understanding of child development and social‑emotional learning
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment
  • Demonstrated commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment
