Step into a pivotal role supporting accessible education for students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing in the Norfolk, VA region. This school-based contract opportunity offers stability throughout the academic year, beginning August 24th and continuing through June 4th, 2027, with full-time hours (35 hours per week). You will generally be placed at just one school, providing dedicated support and fostering meaningful relationships within the school community.
Interpreters are invited to indicate any preference for grade level or caseload, as multiple positions are open. Flexibility is appreciated, and your preferences will be considered to ensure the best possible fit for your skills and interests.
Key Qualifications- Proficient in American Sign Language and experienced in educational interpreting
- Preferred: EIPA score of 3.5 or VQAS Level 3
- Candidates with EIPA 3.0 or VQAS 2 are encouraged to apply if willing to work towards a higher score within three years
- Ability to adapt to a school environment and collaborate with educators and support staff
- Commitment to maintaining professional standards and fostering positive student interactions
- Facilitate effective communication between Deaf or Hard of Hearing students and their peers, teachers, and staff
- Interpret classroom instruction, school events, and related activities
- Support student participation in academic, extracurricular, and social settings
- Maintain confidentiality and ensure ethical interpreting practices
- Communicate progress or concerns with relevant personnel
