We are hiring Teacher Assistants!

The Teacher Assistant position provides academic and instructional support to teachers and students within The Barry Robinson Center's educational program. This role is designed for individuals pursuing a career in teaching who seek meaningful experience in a therapeutic educational setting serving military-connected adolescents with complex mental health needs. Teacher Assistants work alongside teachers to deliver high-quality, individualized instruction while supporting student academic growth and success.

Teacher Assistants are assigned to either High School or Middle School and provide support across content areas. This role focuses exclusively on educational support and follows the teacher schedule. Teacher Assistants work closely with Direct care staff who provide behavioral supervision and safety management in classrooms, allowing Teacher Assistants to maintain a focused academic support role.

Education & Experience

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Education, Human Services, or related field

Strong interest in pursuing a teaching career and/or education credentials.

Experience working with adolescents, particularly those with emotional or behavioral challenges, preferred.

Ability to work cooperatively and communicate effectively with the treatment team, including teachers, clinical staff, direct care staff, residents (students), parents, and medical providers.

Ability to work Monday through Friday during the year-round school year, following the teacher schedule.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Academic & Instructional Support Duties Provide instructional support to the assigned subject area across middle school and high school grade levels.

Assist in implementing daily lesson plans using a variety of instructional techniques including one-on-one instruction, small group work, and whole group support.

Work with individual students and small groups to reinforce concepts, provide academic remediation, and support skill development.

Assist students with completing assignments, projects, and assessments under teacher direction.

Support the teacher in creating a positive, structured, and encouraging learning environment that promotes student success.

Assist in preparing instructional materials, organizing classroom resources, and managing educational technology.

Support implementation of individualized accommodations and modifications.

Assist with administration of informal and formal academic assessments as directed by the teacher.

Support students in utilizing online educational programs and academic technology platforms, ensuring safe and appropriate use.

Provide academic support during experiential learning activities and educational outings as assigned.

May need to substitute for other Education staff members ist in maintaining an organized, clean, and safe classroom learning environment.

Documentation & Communication Duties Collect and document classroom data regarding student academic progress and engagement as requested by the teacher.

Assist with grading assignments, recording grades, and maintaining accurate academic records under teacher supervision.

Review student records, social history, assessment data, and other pertinent educational information to inform instructional support.

Communicate student academic progress, concerns, and needs to the supervising teacher.

Review morning communication from residential staff regarding any student behavioral concerns from the previous evening that may impact the school day and share concerns with Education staff as indicated.

Collaborate with direct care staff in the classroom to support both academic engagement and appropriate student behavior.

Professional Development & Team Participation Participate as a member of the multidisciplinary education team.

Attend and actively participate in education department meetings, in-service trainings, and professional development opportunities.

Attend employee orientation and all required training sessions.

Attend supervision meetings to receive feedback and support for professional growth.

As assigned, attend and contribute to weekly team meetings to communicate and collaborate on student academic needs and treatment concerns.

Participate in treatment team meetings as requested to provide academic updates and insights.

Pursue professional development related to teaching, instructional strategies, and working with students with special needs.

Respond to fire drills and fire emergencies in a timely and orderly manner according to established protocols.

Training & Compliance Requirements Receive and maintain CPR certification and comply with all training requirements

Complete a minimum of 15 clock hours of professional development activities per year Complete a minimum of eight hours of annual paraprofessional training covering:
