Adjunct Faculty in English

The English Department at Old Dominion University invites applicants for a part‑time Adjunct instructional faculty position teaching General Education Composition and Literature courses at the 100‑ and 200‑level in campus‑based, daytime sessions (8:00 AM – 3:00 PM) at the Norfolk, VA campus.

Responsibilities

  • Teach 100‑ and 200‑level General Education Composition and/or Literature courses in person.
  • Prepare and deliver engaging classroom instruction, student assessments, and timely feedback.
  • Manage course logistics, including attendance, syllabus updates, and communication with students and the department.
  • Participate in departmental meetings and professional development as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduate degree (M.A., M.F.A., or Ph.D.) in English or a closely related field with a minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in English courses.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience teaching introductory‑level literature and / or composition courses at the college level.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to teach across genres and periods, incorporating diverse texts and voices.
  • Experience with writing‑studies pedagogies (WAC / WID), multimodality, anti‑racism, and/or universal design for learning.

Conditions of Employment

Location:
