Job Description
Tidewater Community College has served South Hampton Roads for 50 years and is the largest provider of higher education and workforce services in the region, enrolling nearly 25,000 students in 2024-25.
The adjunct faculty member is responsible for teaching courses to which he or she has specific training or competence. The instructor plans, organizes, teaches, and provides feedback to students to promote and direct student learning in classroom, remote via Zoom, or online environments.
The Biology Adjunct Recruitment ideal candidate will be able to teach on each campus as needed (Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, and Portsmouth).
Functional ResponsibilitiesMay be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
Qualifications- Ability to communicate effectively in an electronic format.
- Master’s Degree in Biology or a graduate degree with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Biology.
- College teaching experience in Biology (lecture and labs).
- Experience teaching General Biology, Microbiology, and/or Anatomy and Physiology (including dissection of human cadavers) at a community college.
- Experience applying innovative technology applications to teaching and learning.
- Teaching experience at the college level.
- Knowledge of CANVAS or other learning management systems.
- Knowledge of proven teaching strategies that promote student success.
- Candidates should possess sufficient technology skills for an organization that utilizes significant instructional technology resources.
