Job Duties

The Department of History & Interdisciplinary Studies at Norfolk State University seeks applications for adjunct professors of World History. The Department offers five curricula in History, four in Interdisciplinary Studies, three minors (Interdisciplinary Studies, History, and Africana Studies), a certificate in African and African Diaspora Studies, and fully online degree programs in both History and Interdisciplinary Studies.

  • Teach on‑campus undergraduate courses in World History.
  • Engage in exemplary face‑to‑face teaching and use the university’s learning management system (Blackboard Ultra).
  • Collegially engage with students, staff, and other faculty members.
  • Meet university deadlines for submitting grades and other reports.
    • Minimum Qualifications
    • Demonstrate a strong potential to effectively teach World History.
    • Demonstrate potential to effectively use an online learning management system (Blackboard Ultra or similar).
    • Demonstrate commitment to excellence in teaching.
    • Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, personal integrity, and a demonstrated commitment to diversity.
    Additional Considerations
    • Experience teaching World History in higher education.
    • Possess a PhD in History with extensive graduate coursework in World History.
    Special Instructions

    First review of applications and material shall commence immediately for the Spring 2026 semester and ongoing for future semesters.

    Please note:

    This is an on‑campus teaching position. Currently there is not a need for online adjunct History instructors at NSU.
