Summary

Ascension Episcopal Day School is hiring a Toddler Afternoon Assistant Teacher in Norfolk, VA. The role is part‑time, with work hours from 12:00 to 6:00, and involves caring for 12 children in a 1‑year‑old Toddler classroom. The assistant will help the Lead Teacher develop and maintain a nurturing and creative learning community. Starting pay is $15 per hour. The school serves pre‑school children ages 6 weeks through 5 years.

Duties
  • Actively engage with students in their play and activities.
  • Follow staff policies and procedures to ensure a healthy and safe environment, including cleaning and sterilizing the classroom and materials throughout the day.
  • Assist in maintaining attendance and classroom records.
  • Work cooperatively and effectively as a team member by communicating and contributing information and ideas on a continuous basis.
  • Work to improve teaching and professional skills by attending workshops and trainings.
  • Consistently maintain open and friendly relationships with each child's family.
  • Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
Requirements
  • Experience working with young children, especially in an early education center.
  • Some training in early education or a related field.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, and the ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Must love working with children and be able to maintain a positive, professional attitude, including the ability to work effectively with a team of other teachers.
