Job Description
The Department of Psychology at Old Dominion University invites applicants for an Assistant Professor of Human Factors Psychology. The search is open to all areas of potential research and teaching interests in Human Factors; preference will be given to candidates with a research program that complements and expand current Human Factors faculty research areas in the HFES-accredited PhD program (e.g., Human-AI Teaming in Security, Transportation, or Healthcare).

This faculty member will be responsible for:
Conducting high quality, programmatic research.
Seeking external research funding.
Teaching undergraduate courses to support the undergraduate psychology curriculum ching graduate courses in the Psychology Department.
Mentoring M.S. and Ph.D. students.

Minimum required education and/or special licenses, registrations, trainings, or certifications

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Psychology with an emphasis in an area of Human Factors or a closely allied program such as Engineering Psychology, Applied Cognition, and Human-Computer Interaction;
Candidates who provide evidence that their Ph.D. will be conferred by July 25, 2027, will be considered for the position.

Minimum required level and type of experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities

Candidates must demonstrate strong potential for developing an independent, funded research program and show accomplishments in and/or potential for quality teaching and mentoring at the graduate and undergraduate level.

Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to candidates with a research program that complements and expands that of current faculty within the Department of Psychology.
