About This Role
Ascension Episcopal Day School is accepting applications for a full‑time Primary Assistant Teacher in our three‑year‑old room. Work hours are currently 7:30 am–5:30 pm with a one‑hour lunch break. The shift will be 8:15 am–5:15 pm with an hour lunch break.
The Primary Assistant Teacher will assist the Lead Teacher in creating a nurturing, creative, collaborative and supportive learning community for up to 14 children aged three years.
Responsibilities- Assist in the creation and maintenance of a safe and stimulating classroom environment.
- Follow staff policies and procedures to ensure healthy and safe practices with the children.
- Participate actively in the general health and care routines of the children and classroom environment by washing hands, taking out trash, cleaning/sterilizing classroom floors, toys, tables and other surfaces throughout the day; follow additional COVID protocols.
- Assist in the creation and implementation of curriculum that supports cognitive, physical, social, creative and emotional development of young children.
- Actively engage students in activities, explorations and opportunities that encourage curiosity, creativity, movement, decision‑making and problem‑solving appropriate to their development levels.
- Model developmentally appropriate behavior management techniques using the 101 Principles of Positive Guidance.
- Assist in the maintenance of attendance and childcare records for the classroom.
- Work cooperatively and effectively as a team member by communicating and contributing information on a continuous basis and attending staff meetings.
- Participate in staff development opportunities and maintain knowledge of current child development practices.
- Consistently maintain open and friendly relationships with each child's family, greeting and interacting with each parent and student each day in a friendly manner upon arrival and at departure.
- Demonstrate professional, ethical, and responsible behavior.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Lead Teacher or Director.
- When the Lead Teacher is not present, act as the team leader for your classroom, modeling best teaching practices and professional behavior for other staff members in your room.
- Minimum 1–2 years of experience in an early‑education center.
- Completed some college‑level courses in early education or a related field.
- Extensive early education training, including knowledge of early education teaching methods and child development theory.
- Effective oral and written communication skills; ability to work with diverse populations.
- Six days of paid vacation and sick leave.
