Job DescriptionJOB SUMMARY
Special Education Teacher Assistants report directly to the building principal and work under the guidance of certified teachers to support students with diverse learning, emotional, physical, and behavioral needs. The assistant plays a vital role in facilitating daily classroom instruction and ensuring a safe, supportive learning environment. Responsibilities include providing one-on-one and small-group instructional support, assisting with behavioral interventions, and offering physical assistance as needed.
The assistant also monitors and documents student progress and behavior, reporting observations to the supervising teacher and administration. Additional duties include supporting classroom management, maintaining a safe and structured environment, assisting with personal hygiene and toileting needs, supporting student mobility, and addressing students’ basic personal care requirements.
QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or GED, and one year of experience working with students with special needs.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Demonstrates the ability to organize, utilize and/or create materials for student instruction.
- Is resourceful and creative when assisting the teacher in student programming.
- Assist teacher in the daily schedule by adhering to classroom and program procedures.
- Assists in the delivery of the instructional program.
- Accurately completes assigned tasks in a timely manner.
- Complies with requests of the teacher/teaching team.
- Takes care of equipment and supplies.
- Actively participates in the instruction of students.
- Shows initiative in performing duties.
- Transports students in own vehicle as safety dictates.
- Demonstrates professional working relationship with teacher/teaching team.
- Interacts in a professional manner with students.
- Exhibits ability to work with individuals and small groups.
- Maintains professional relationships.
- Is a positive role model.
- Complies with program/site health and safety procedures.
- Inform appropriate staff of student health/safety concerns.
- Reports to work at the designated time.
- Comply with SECEP attendance requirements.
- Accepts constructive criticism and initiates appropriate changes.
- Adheres to SECEP/site rules and regulations.
- Uses discretion in confidential matters.
- Attends required meetings regularly and promptly.
- Employs appropriate conflict resolution strategies.

- Models moral and ethical standards as well as personal integrity in all interactions.

Position Type: Full-Time
Salary: $19.40 to $31.20 Per Hour
