Full-Time and Permanent;
Exempt; 7.33 Hours/Day; 200 Days/Year; 10 Months/Year

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and eligible for or in possession of the applicable Virginia Teaching Certificate.
  • Tuberculin Skin Test certifying that the individual is free of contagious tuberculosis.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Demonstrates an in-depth knowledge of the subject(s) to be taught.
  • Demonstrates considerable knowledge of the principles and methodologies of effective teaching.
  • Has the ability to deliver articulate oral presentations and to write clear written reports.
  • Effectively interacts with pupils, colleagues, administrators, and classified employees.
  • Knowledgeable in the use of personal computers and graphing technologies.

Nature of Position

  • Teaches concepts and skills in balancing work and family, food and nutrition, clothing and textiles, home management, child care and development, housing and decorating careers, hospitality and food, family relationships, consumer education, and career education to secondary pupils, utilizing the course of instruction approved by appropriate authorities.
  • Instructs pupils in citizenship and in basic subject matter specified in state law and in the school district's administrative regulations and procedures.
  • Organizes class activities so that preparation, instruction, laboratory work, and clean-up can be accomplished within the allotted class time.
  • Demonstrates skill in techniques in work and family studies and prepares appropriate instructional aids and displays to enhance learning.
  • Provides individual or small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to each pupil's needs.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly, safe, and productive environment in the laboratory-classroom.
  • Selects and requisitions books, equipment, and instructional aids. Maintains inventory records and purchases groceries and other supplies as required.
  • Maintains control of storage and use of school-owned property and makes minor repairs or requests repairs to tools and equipment as needed.
  • Instruct pupils in the use, care, and safe operation of household equipment and appliances to ensure their safety.
  • Maintains professional competence through district-provided in-service educational activities and/or self-selected professional growth activities.
  • Evaluates each pupil’s progress in performance, knowledge and skills.
  • Maintains current career and technical information for pupils interested in professional careers, as well as resource materials for caring for the home.
  • Identifies pupils’ needs and collaborates with other professional staff to help pupils address health, attitude, and learning problems.
  • Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities (FCCLA/HERO).
  • Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned workday.
  • Participates cooperatively with the principal or designee to develop the method by which he/she will be evaluated in conformance with district guidelines.
  • Conducts follow-up with each career and technical education program completer within 6 months of graduation.
