Assistant Director for Service Learning
The Assistant Director for Service Learning is responsible for service-learning and civic engagement opportunities s includes collaborating with university faculty and community partners to develop, facilitate, and support service-learning course development and implementation. In addition, the Assistant Director provides direct community service and civic engagement opportunities for students through the coordination of service project days and an Alternative Spring Break program.
This individual also supports food insecurity needs of ODU students through oversight of the Monarch Food Pantry and related programming and services. The Assistant Director supervises the Volunteer Programs Specialist, a graduate assistant, and undergraduate student employees, interns, and volunteers and reports directly to the Director of Campus and Community Engagement in the Center for Career & Leadership Development.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Masters in Education, Public Service/Administration, or similar degree or Bachelor's degree in Education, Public Service/Administration, or similar degree with years of related experience required.
- Prior working knowledge of the national research pertaining to service learning and civic engagement in higher education.
- Considerable skill in program development, management, and assessment.
- Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Collaborate effectively with students, faculty, staff, and external partners to build strong relationships, support shared goals, and advance cross-functional initiatives.
- Demonstrated cultural competence and professionalism while working effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds in a dynamic and diverse work environment.
- Understanding of event planning processes
- Demonstrated ability to plan and achieve short- and long-range goals driven by the mission and goals of the department and division.
Additional Considerations:
- Considerable experience in service-learning work on a college campus.
- Some administrative experience in higher education, including administering a budget, planning, and staff supervision.
