OverviewUniversity Instructors, LLC is seeking talented people from diverse backgrounds to lead, change, and inspire students in the Norfolk, VA area. In this role you will serve students in special education programs as a classroom teacher in a pathway program.
Candidates that hold a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in ANY field are eligible to take part in our pathways program. In this program you have the opportunity to become eligible for a provisional teaching license in SPED for school year 2026-27 and beyond.
ResponsibilitiesCurriculum Development and Instruction:
- Develop and implement engaging lesson plans that align with the school's curriculum and educational standards.
- Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages active learning and participation.
- Use a variety of teaching methods and instructional strategies to meet the diverse needs of students.
- Integrate technology and other innovative tools to enhance learning experiences.
- Other Duties as assigned by the Program Manager and/or School Administrator(s).
Student Assessment and Evaluation:
- Conduct regular assessments to monitor student progress and identify areas for improvement.
- Provide timely and constructive feedback regarding academic performance and behavior.
- Utilize assessment data to inform instructional practices and interventions.
- Other Duties as assigned by the Program Manager and/or School Administrator(s).
Classroom Management:
- Establish and enforce clear classroom rules and expectations to maintain a safe and orderly learning environment.
- Address and manage behavioral issues promptly and effectively.
- Create a supportive and respectful classroom culture that fosters mutual respect and cooperation.
- Other Duties as assigned by the Program Manager and/or School Administrator(s).
Collaboration and Professional Development:
- Work closely with colleagues, including assistant teachers, special education staff, and administration, to support student learning and development.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with educational best practices and advancements.
- Lead or contribute to school committees, events, and initiatives as needed.
- Submit records related to attendance, student progress, and other UI program requirements on time.
- Other Duties as assigned by the Program Manager and/or School Administrator(s).
- Attend evening, virtual ILC meetings.
Knowledge and
Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Math, Science, Social Science or a related field.
- Must meet the Content Knowledge standards required for a provisional teaching license;
Valid teaching certification in K-12 education preferred; - Minimum of 3 years of teaching experience, preferably in a K-12 school setting.
- Strong understanding of child development and elementary education best practices.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively and build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Passion for teaching and a commitment to fostering a love of learning in students.
Successful applicants will:
- Establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers, administrators, support staff and parents.
- Continually assess and monitor student achievement and maintain all documents and evaluations for institutional and individual reporting purposes.
- Design and implement appropriate instructional and/or learning strategies and activities.
- Manage student behaviors in the instructional setting to ensure an environment that is conducive to the learning process.
- Assist in management of student behaviors in other parts of the school, center, school grounds, or work site.
- Coordinate instructional activities with other professional staff, both school and non-school based as required, to maximize student learning opportunities.
