Cooperative Extension Technician -H

Job Summary

The purpose of this job is to provide programmatic and some administrative support for the 4-H Program. This position works under close supervision of the 4-H Extension Agent and Unit Coordinator according to set procedures.

• Assist in planning, preparation, implementation, and evaluation of various trainings, programs, and activities of the 4-H programming, including in‑school programs, clubs, camps, and workshops.
• Attend 4-H Junior Camp and other overnight 4-H duties as assigned.
• Maintain and update 4-H Online and general enrollment.
• Handle inquiries from the general public in person or by telephone; forward calls to the appropriate party.
• Type various documents including correspondence, forms, reports, educational materials, newsletters, and related documents.
• Maintain and update the agency’s website and social media accounts.
• Assist in public relations activities that help expand the promotion and public awareness of Cooperative Extension services and programs through the use of social media and periodic newsletters.
• Assist with the recruitment and involvement of volunteers.
• Assist in planning, preparation, implementation, and evaluation of various programs and activities related to agriculture and horticulture, including the Master Gardeners and FCS as assigned.
• Perform related work as required.

Education: Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent. A college degree from an accredited college or university in a related field preferred.

Experience: Six (6) months of customer service, general office assistance, or youth development experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

• Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
• Must pass a criminal background check annually.
• Must attend 4-H Camp Leadership Training as required by the Virginia 4-H State Office.

Light to medium work that involves walking or standing virtually all of the time and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or skill, adeptness and speed in the use of the fingers, hands or limbs on repetitive operation of mechanical or electronic office or shop machines or tools within moderate tolerances or limits of accuracy.

• Involves routine and frequent exposure to bright/dim light; dusts and pollen.
• Extreme heat and/or cold; wet or humid conditions.
