Job Title: Adjunct Faculty in Philosophy and Religious Studies

Department: Department PHILOSOPHY

Position Number: PT0230

Job Description: The Department of Philosophy & Religious Studies invites applicants for part-time adjunct instructional faculty to teach courses within the fields of Philosophy or Religious Studies. We have the most need for in-person classes on the Norfolk campus for general education courses taught within the department as well as 8-week online asynchronous classes in courses, such as Bioethics, Cybersecurity Ethics, Business Ethics, and popular general education courses, such as REL 147:
Cults and Conspiracies. This post will remain open for applications as opportunities arise throughout the 2026-27 academic year, and beyond.

Position Type: Part-Time

Type of Recruitment: General Public

Minimum education and/or licenses, registrations, trainings, or certifications: M.A. or Ph.D. in Philosophy or Religious Studies or an M.A. or Ph.D. in a related field with a minimum of 18 hours graduate credentials in Philosophy or Religious Studies courses.

Minimum required experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Experience with online teaching in higher education, especially use of Canvas
  • Preparation for and/or experience in teaching Philosophy or Religious Studies courses at the college level
