Job Summary
The Special Education Teacher - Inclusion Setting (Secondary) provides specialized instruction and academic support to students with disabilities in a general education classroom. The role develops and implements Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), adapts curriculum, delivers differentiated instruction, assesses student progress, collaborates with educators and families, and promotes students' academic, behavioral, and social-emotional success while ensuring compliance with special education laws and regulations.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide specialized instruction to students with disabilities in an inclusion setting.
- Adapt and modify curriculum and instructional materials to meet individual student needs.
- Develop, implement, monitor, and evaluate Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
- Deliver differentiated instruction aligned with curriculum standards and student goals.
- Assess student academic, behavioral, and social progress using various evaluation methods.
- Maintain accurate records of student performance, services, and accommodations.
- Administer standardized assessments following established procedures.
- Create and maintain a structured, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment.
- Collaborate with general education teachers, administrators, specialists, and support staff.
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress.
- Participate in IEP meetings, multidisciplinary team meetings, and professional development.
- Maintain instructional materials and perform other instructional duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in Special Education.
- Eligible for or currently holding a Virginia Teaching License with Special Education General Curriculum K-12 endorsement.
- Current Tuberculin (TB) screening confirming the absence of contagious tuberculosis.
- Knowledge of special education instructional practices, curriculum adaptation, and legal requirements.
- Understanding of a wide range of disabilities and appropriate teaching strategies.
- Strong classroom management, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and families.
- Proficiency in instructional technology and student data systems.
