Presidential Internship Program
The Presidential Internship Program is NSU's premierwork-based learning program. It has been in existence for over 10years, designed to equip students to have substantial experiencesunder the mentorship of supportive campus leaders. Studentsapplying for the program should be
- Students with a 3.0 or higher .
- Students who submit a stellar resume and application.
- Students who interview for the opportunity.
- Students who will be ready to be their Spartan Best for the University!
The Presidential Internship Program is a very competitive programas only 10-15 students are selected to participate . Over 100individuals have successfully participated in this program and werepositioned for other experiences as a result.
Interns must be full-time studentsStudents can work in a variety of locations including but not limited to
- + Office of the President,
- + Office of the Provost andVice President for Academic Affairs,
- + Vice President for Finance and Administration
- + Vice President for Student Affairs,
- + Vice President for University Advancement
- + Athletics
- + and more.
The Presidential Internship Program provides valuableadministrative experience for the students, teaches them valuablejob-related skills, helps them establish relationships with University leaders and earn money to support their academicpursuits. The program also supports Professional Development, so 3hours to 5 hours will be dedicated to your professional/career development.
- Students selected as an intern can expect to receive
- Feedback on their performance, utilization of tools, and/or feedback on a project that helps students enhance his or herworkplace skills.
- Resources - i.e. Linkedin Learning, Career Assessments, andaccess to our State-wide Internship Prep tools. These resourceshelp interns to navigate the career search process.
Wage employees are paid an hourly rate for actual hours worked are limited to working 1500 hours per year and can only work amaximum of 29 hours a week. Work hours must be counted on the basisof the twelve-month period beginning May 1 of each year and April
30 of the following year. Wage employees in all agencies (allbranches of government) are limited to working no more than 1500hours during each twelve-month period of May 1-April 30. Should youwork 1500 hours prior to April 30, your services will be terminatedimmediately. You will not be eligible for employment again until
May 1. It is the responsibility of the employee and supervisor, aswell as the Office of Human Resources, to monitor these hours toensure compliance to policy. Wage employees may not earn leave nordo they have access to the Grievance Procedure process. They arenot covered by the provision of the Virginia Personnel Act and arenot entitled to the benefits afforded employees occupyingclassified positions.
Norfolk State University conducts background checks on all candidates identified as a finalist for employment consideration.
The type of background check(s) performed are dependent upon thetype of position for which you have been identified as a finalist and may include criminal history, including sexual offender registry checks, reference checks, degree validation, DMV (driving) records, license verification, and credit report reviews. The results of background checks are made available to University employing officials. As a finalist, you will be required to sign an Authorization to Release form.
Norfolk State University utilizes
