Position: Coordinator for Residential Services

The Coordinator for Residential Services serves as a keymember of the Housing & Residence Life team by leading residential education, student engagement, leadership development, and residential support initiatives that foster academic success, student belonging, retention, and community within Norfolk State University's residential communities. This position is responsible for coordinating the department's Residential Curriculum, educational programming model, Living-Learning Communities, residential leadership development, student organizations, campus-wide visitation process, and student outreach initiatives while providing operational support for residential services.

The Coordinator works collaboratively with Residence Directors, Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, Accessibility Services, Enrollment Management, and campus partners to create an exceptional residential experience that supports the holistic development of residential students. The position also provides limited support for housing assignments through special population assignments, accessibility accommodations, room selection outreach, and occupancy initiatives while exercising independent judgment, maintaining confidential records, and contributing to the efficient operation of Housing & Residence Life.

The position is live on optional and will participate in the 24 hour on call duty rotation, campus wide, for the Office of Housing and Residence Life.

Key Responsibilities

Coordinate special housing assignments, disability-related housing accommodations, and emergency housing processes. Advise residential student organizations and support Living-Learning Communities, leadership development, and student engagement programming. Coordinate residential outreach initiatives that foster student success, belonging, retention, and community development. Oversee the Housing & Residence Life work-study program, including recruitment, scheduling, training, and operational support. Audit housing and meal plan accounts, assist with scholarship administration, and maintain accurate student records using university systems such as THD and Colleague.

Support residence life operations, visitation processes, conduct follow-up, departmental training, opening and closing activities, and special projects. Collaborate with campus partners to connect students with wellness resources, basic needs initiatives, and institutional support services.

Residential Education, Student Engagement & Learning (35%)
  • Coordinate the implementation and continuous improvement of the departmental Residential Curriculum.
  • Develop, implement, and assess educational programming that promotes academic success, leadership development, wellness, inclusion, career readiness, civic engagement, and personal development.
  • Create intentional learning experiences that align with departmental learning outcomes and student development theory.
  • Coordinate campus-wide residential programming initiatives and signature residential traditions.
  • Lead departmental outreach initiatives that increase student engagement, sense of belonging, persistence, and retention.
  • Coordinate and expand Living-Learning Communities in collaboration with Academic Affairs and campus partners.
  • Develop academic success initiatives including faculty engagement opportunities, study programs, academic recognition programs, and learning support initiatives.
  • Collaborate with faculty, student affairs professionals, and community partners to deliver educational opportunities for residential students.
  • Develop assessment tools to evaluate student learning, engagement, and program effectiveness.
  • Assist with departmental marketing and communication efforts that promote residential engagement opportunities.
  • Coordinate welcome initiatives and community-building experiences throughout the academic year.
Student Leadership Development & Residential Organizations (25%)
  • Advise the Residence Hall Association (RHA).
  • Advise the Residential Leader Council (RLC).
  • Advise the Graduate Housing Staff Council.
  • Coordinate leadership development initiatives for Residential Leaders and graduate student staff.
  • Develop and facilitate Residential Leader training programs, in-service sessions, and continuing education opportunities.
  • Assist with department-wide student staff recruitment, selection, onboarding, and leadership development.
  • Coordinate the Residential Leader Capstone Project and leadership competency initiatives.
