Job Description

Tidewater Community College has served South Hampton Roads – both students and employers – for 50 years. It has grown from 1 campus into a regional educational and economic force. TCC is the largest provider of higher education and workforce services in Hampton Roads, enrolling nearly 25,000 students in 2024-25. Founded in 1968 as a part of the Virginia Community College System, Tidewater Community College ( TCC ) services South Hampton Roads with 4 campuses in Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Virginia Beach, 7 regional centers and 2 important cultural institutions.

The college had 3,399 graduates in , 40 percent of whom pursued degrees that would let them transfer to 4-year institutions. Of South Hampton Roads residents enrolled in higher education 33% enrolled at TCC . Tidewater Community College’s Workforce Solutions Department seeks an experienced Nurse Aide Instructor to lead a hands‑on Certified Nursing Assistant ( CNA ) exam–preparation course. This position is an adjunct instructor position in the college’s non-credit program under Workforce Solutions. This program includes both continuing education for professional development and industry recognized credential attainment, which will be offered synchronously, at TCC campuses and other convenient locations throughout the community.

The Nurse Aide instructor teaches and trains students in classroom, laboratory, and clinical settings to prepare them for certification and careers as certified nursing assistants (CNAs). Nurse Aide instructors are responsible for teaching theoretical concepts, medical terminology, and basic nursing skills through lectures, multimedia presentations, and demonstrations.

The instructor must be responsible for effectively planning and teaching courses in both a classroom or a synchronous on-line environment to students with a variety of academic backgrounds and experiences. Instructors must be skilled in oral and written communication and must be able to work cooperatively with other staff members. Classes may meet on days, nights, or weekends.

1. Responsible for creating a learning environment that facilitates students’ acquisition of knowledge and skills in a discipline and/or program.

2. Aligns course activities with student learning outcomes for the course; employ a variety of active learning strategies to foster student engagement; employ appropriate technology and supporting materials that support course and/or program learning outcomes; and provide students with prompt and meaningful feedback on course activities and assignments, communicating with students in a timely and respectful manner.
