Position Overview
The Engineering Technician (GS-12) provides technical, non-professional engineering support to Commander, Naval Air Forces (CNAF) in direct support of aircraft carrier (CVN) readiness, maintenance, modernization, and lifecycle sustainment. This role supports CNAF’s mission to deliver combat-ready and sustainable naval aviation forces by enabling data-driven readiness assessments, maintenance planning, and execution across all phases of the Optimized Fleet Response Plan (OFRP).
The Engineering Technician works closely with CVN Maintenance, Material, and Readiness stakeholders to support readiness operations, engineering technical services, production control, configuration data management, and integrated logistics efforts for Nimitz- and Ford-class aircraft carriers.
Key Responsibilities Engineering Technical SupportProvide technical assistance in support of shipboard systems, equipment, and engineering documentation for aircraft carriers.
Assist with the preparation, review, and update of Ship Change Documents (SCDs), availability work packages, and related technical products.
Support configuration data management activities, including verification, tracking, and maintenance of ship system configuration data.
Assist engineering teams with feasibility studies, system status reviews, and technical assessments supporting maintenance and modernization planning.
Support CNAF readiness operations by assisting in the collection, validation, and organization of readiness-related data across shipboard systems.
Assist in monitoring Hull, Mechanical, and Electrical (HM&E) systems status impacting mission readiness.
Provide technical input supporting habitability, livability, and logistics readiness assessments.
Support Integrated Project Teams (IPTs) and Readiness Operations Center (ROC) activities as assigned.
Assist with planning documents, material lists, schedules, and funding support for ship availabilities.
Support the preparation and revision of ship availability data, man-day estimates, and production schedules.
Assist in tracking work package execution and providing technical status updates to government leads.
Support Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) efforts, including equipment validation, maintenance history compilation, and logistics documentation updates.
Assist with data entry, updates, and maintenance of authorized databases supporting CVN readiness and maintenance.
Support preparation of technical reports, metrics, and briefings for CNAF leadership and stakeholders.
Experience:
Minimum six (6) years of experience in the ship engineering field, including:
At least two (2) years of general experience, and
At least two (2) years of specialized experience in technical, non-professional naval architecture, marine engineering, or electrical/electronic engineering.
Demonstrated experience supporting ship maintenance, readiness, or modernization efforts in a Navy or DoD environment.
Familiarity with aircraft carrier systems, maintenance planning, or shipyard/availability support activities.
Ability to work effectively in an integrated team environment supporting government engineering and readiness organizations.
Ability to perform work at government facilities and onboard aircraft carriers as required.
U.S. citizenship required.
Active Secret Clearance required.
