THOR Solutions is actively seeking a Shipboard Air Conditioning & Refrigeration (AC&R) Mechanical Technician to provide support at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Maintenance Center CODE 252 (MARMC) in Norfolk, VA. The Technician will provide full-time onsite contracted support to MARMC CODE 252.

Typical Responsibilities
  • Provide Full-Time Onsite Support as well as Surge Support as tasked for the following Code 252 cognizant equipment:
    • AEGIS Electronic Cooling Water Systems
    • Electric Cooling Water Pumps
    • AEGIS Seawater Pumps
    • Conductivity Panels
    • Dry Air Panels
    • Dedicated Dehydrators
  • Conduct Fleet Technical Assistance on‑site or via distance support as required, to include engineering/technical evaluations, equipment functional checks, troubleshooting, test, analysis and equipment repairs as tasked.
  • Conduct Assessments and Grooms determining equipment condition and out of specification settings; observe operation of the equipment by ship's force to witness the full range of performance, when possible; utilize appropriate measuring equipment to obtain data for evaluation; evaluate findings and make adjustments and repairs to the maximum extent possible during the time available.
  • Provide Onboard Maintenance Training (OBMT) to Ship's Force technicians in the operation, repair, and maintenance. Perform/provide support during shipboard auxiliary systems tasking including TSRA, INSURV and Tech Assist events.
Location

Full time onsite at Mid‑Atlantic Regional Maintenance Center in Norfolk, VA.

Travel

Up to 10% travel is anticipated.

Typical Physical Activity

Primarily desk/computer work in an office environment. May involve repetitive motion. Periodic visits to waterfront/shipboard environments. May involve traversing shipboard environments (e.g., confined spaces, ladders, hatches) or vision.

Existing SECRET Security Clearance Required

This position requires an existing active or interim Secret security clearance prior to hire. Only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance; therefore, only current U.S. citizens will be considered for this position.

  • A candidate with especially strong, relevant experience but no current clearance may be considered, but a new clearance must be obtained prior to hire.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • A high school diploma, GED equivalent, or a relevant U.S. Navy technical school diploma/certification.
  • Five (5) years (accumulated within the last seven (7) years) of demonstrated, specialized, hands‑on experience and proof of expertise operating, troubleshooting, repairing, maintaining, and assessing US Navy Auxiliary equipment including, but not limited to:
    • AEGIS Electronic Cooling Water Systems,
    • Electric Cooling Water Pumps,
    • AEGIS Seawater Pumps,
    • Conductivity Panels,
    • Dry Air Panels,
    • Dedicated Dehydrators in combat spaces.
  • Demonstrated experience working in the official capacity of a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on the aforementioned systems/equipment/components for a US Navy Engineering Activity, US Navy Shipboard Engineering Department, Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), or industrial/commercial equivalent is also required.
  • Proficient using general and special purpose electronic test equipment to perform organizational level maintenance.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of Navy assessment programs, visit processes and reporting methods for visits.
  • Demonstrated regularly using accepted current instrumentation for diagnosing equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability for interpreting wiring diagrams and control schematics.
  • Ability to utilize computers including the Microsoft Office Suite for compiling information for reports and history files and transfer digital pictures from camera to computer and enhance as required and label them for report purposes.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret wiring diagrams, control schematics and plans and the ability as Subject Matter Expert (SME) to troubleshoot, analyze and provide distance support for listed equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally.
