This position will be field based out of Norfolk, VA or Staten Island, NY with travel. . This is a full‑time, salaried, exempt position reporting to the Manager, Engineering.
The Drydock Superintendent provides direct on‑site management of tugboats during extended repair periods at shipyards throughout Moran’s operating areas, including, but not limited to:
North Kingston, RI; NY/NJ;
Norfolk, VA;
Rockland, ME;
Charleston, SC;
Jacksonville, FL;
Mobile, AL;
New Orleans, LA; and Port Arthur, TX. This position is the on‑site Moran representative for shipyard periods to which he/she is assigned and works in shipyards mainly on the U.S. Eastern and Gulf Coasts while repairs are ongoing.
- Work safely in a shipyard environment and promote the safety of others.
- Develop a schedule and forecast work needs.
- Order all owner‑furnished equipment required during dry docking.
- Manage on‑site to ensure work is completed per specifications in a cost‑effective and timely manner.
- Provide weekly progress reports of the status of ongoing repairs.
- Maintain current cost updates for work performed in the shipyard, including all charges associated with outside vendors. This also involves working with vendors when determining any change order or growth work.
- Develop a dry‑docking report and cost summary following completion of a repair period.
- Communicate regularly with the manager of this position.
- Assume responsibility for being the primary regulatory body interface for required inspections and surveys. This includes accompanying United States Coast Guard (USCG) Inspectors and American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) Surveyors on all structural and system inspections/surveys while the vessel is in the shipyard.
- Provide occasional supervision of voyage repairs as needed.
- Marine engineering degree or equivalent related experience.
- At least 2 years of sea‑going or related experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and to handle multiple assignments simultaneously.
- Intermediate skills with Microsoft Office.
- Physical abilities:
Ability to perform inspections within confined spaces (limited access/head room), climb, reach overhead, lift 50 lbs. occasionally and work in a wide range of temperatures and environments (dust, fumes) while employing proper PPE. - Work weekends as needed during vessel dry‑docking periods.

Our target pay range for the Drydock Superintendent position is $100,000 – $130,000 per year. This pay range represents Moran’s commitment to pay transparency and is a reasonable estimate of possible compensation for this role at the time of posting. The final salary for this role will be determined based on careful consideration of a variety of factors, such as the candidate’s exact location, experience, and expertise related to the qualifications.
