Bridge Inspector/Field Technician; Team Leader
Moffatt & Nichol specializes in large complex waterfront infrastructure projects and is recognized as one of the worldwide leaders in this field. We are actively searching for a Bridge Inspector / Field Technician with NBIS Team Lead certification to join our Raleigh, NC (preferred), Norfolk or Richmond, VA office. As the successful new hire, you will perform bridge inspections. You will join our team which provides inspection services across the State of North Carolina, Virginia and the southeastern United States.
The principal function of this position is to evaluate bridges through above ground engineering inspections. You will utilize Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and National Highway Institute (NHI) criteria while inspecting bridges via buckets, snoopers, boats, ladders, safety harness, and other equipment.

- Partners with other professionals and departments to gather information for projects
- Works collaboratively with all members of the inspection group
- Conducts inspections and assists in supervision of site investigations as needed
- Utilizes data entry/manipulation and technical writing skills for the preparation and review of inspection reports, etc.
- Provides quality assurance reviews of inspection reports
- Performs other duties as required
- Conducts inspections and, when needed, supervises site investigations
- Analyzes deteriorated components according to appropriate standards and assesses remaining serviceable sections
- Prepares or assists in preparing inspection reports, including: data entry, technical writing, and photo editing
- Drives trucks over 10,000 lbs., tows trailers, and operates equipment to safely facilitate structural inspections
- Prepares safety documents and field notebooks for inspections
- Maintains personal bridge inspection records and ensure proper filing
- Works collaboratively with all members of field teams across the company
- Prepares travel logistics including equipment planning and execution

Qualifications:- 5 to 10 years of bridge inspection experience
- FHWA NBIS (23 CFR 650.309) Team Leader qualification
- FHWA-NHI-130055 certification required
- FHWA-NHI-130078 certification desired
- SNBI experience desired
- Experience with NCDOT bridge inspections and proficiency in WIGINS software are required
- Field requirements are 5 days per week in North Carolina, Virginia or the Southern United States. Hours may vary due to weather or daylight. Some weekends may be required.
- Experienced with data entry, data manipulation, and technical writing skills for inspection report preparation and review
- Proficient with logistics, including planning, execution, quality control, and followup
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proven planning, organizational, and time management abilities
- Valid driver's license in good standing
- Availability and willingness to travel overnight and for approximately 2 weeks per month is required
- Willingness to work from Moffatt & Nichol's Raleigh, NC;
Norfolk or Richmond, VA offices on non-field days - Selected candidate must consent to and pass a post-offer/pre-employment drug screening
